Program and Logistics - Living in the Twin Cities
The
Summer of Solutions program is free, but all participants are expected
to pay their own cost of living while participating in the Summer of
Solutions. We will help you fundraise to cover these costs and make up
for unpaid time, and can offer limited support from funds that we
raise. You should expect to cover travel costs to and from St. Paul,
any incidentals, the cost of external optional programs like the
Rothbury Music Festival or the SSC SPROG. For transportation within the
Twin Cities, we are working to secure a fleet of bikes for transport
within the Twin Cities, though bring your own if you can. If bikes are
not available, the Twin Cities public transit system is quite
efficient, and costs $1.50 each way – weekly and monthly passes are
available. While we don’t encourage car transport in general, if you do
bring a car, we appreciate your help in carpooling if and when
necessary.
The Summer of Solutions Team
has worked to secure low-cost housing in Macalester College dorms
(non-air-conditioned) and partial board, though you can also choose
limited off-campus housing as available. For the 9-week period of the
program, there are two options:
$932 for dorm housing and 5
meals/week
$1149 for dorm housing and 10
meals/week
Estimated
cost of housing off-campus is ~$1000 for both months. For food, both
restaurants at a range of prices and super markets are widely available
in the local area.
